This clock, as cliche as is sounds, appeared to me in a dream.  It is the first mechanism I dreamed about while I was recovering from near fatal Staph infection.

The hour is displayed on a mechanism that is modeled after the radial engine designs that are commonplace on old propeller-driven airplanes.   The hour of the day is the “most extended” piston in the array of 12 “cylinders”.  Each hour, a twelve-segment geneva wheel actuates the hourly display.  The hourly display is geneva actuated to help to thwart ambiguities that could come from the intermediate states of the piston array.
